SPIKE is not medical care
SPIKE training and educational materials are not substitutes for advice, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, physical therapy, or care from a physician or other appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
Nothing on the SPIKE website or in SPIKE training materials should be interpreted as medical advice.
Before you begin
Physical activity carries inherent risks.
Before beginning SPIKE—or any new exercise or movement program—consider your individual health, physical abilities, limitations, and circumstances.
Consult an appropriately qualified healthcare professional before participating if you:
- Have an injury.
- Have recently undergone surgery or another medical procedure.
- Have a medical condition.
- Are pregnant.
- Experience persistent or unexplained pain.
- Have been advised to restrict physical activity.
- Are currently receiving medical or rehabilitative care.
- Are uncertain whether SPIKE is appropriate for you.
If you are under the care of a healthcare or rehabilitation professional, follow that professional’s recommendations regarding your activity.
Listen to your body
Listen to your body.
Do not force a position.
Do not attempt to match another person’s range of motion, geometry, intensity, or level of difficulty.
Use an appropriate starting point for your abilities.
Modify or discontinue a position when appropriate.
Injury, surgery & rehabilitation
SPIKE may be explored by people with many different training histories and starting points.
However:
SPIKE is not a treatment for injury, disease, or a medical condition.
SPIKE is not a substitute for physical therapy, medical treatment, or professional rehabilitation.
References on our website to people returning to physical activity following injury, surgery, time away from training, or periods of physical restriction describe individual circumstances or contexts in which someone may explore physical activity with appropriate professional guidance.
They should not be interpreted as claims that SPIKE treats, heals, cures, prevents, or rehabilitates an injury, disease, or medical condition.
Performance & injury prevention
People come to SPIKE with different goals.
Those goals may include developing qualities such as strength, coordination, awareness, control, flexibility, mobility, balance, or athletic performance.
However, SPIKE does not guarantee improvements in any particular physical or athletic characteristic.
SPIKE also does not guarantee that participation will prevent injuries.
Descriptions of these qualities on the SPIKE website should be understood in the context of physical training and the goals individuals may bring to their practice—not as guaranteed outcomes.
Testimonials & individual experiences
SPIKE may feature people describing their personal experiences with the method.
Those experiences belong to the individuals describing them.
Individual results vary.
A testimonial is not a guarantee that you will experience the same result.
Testimonials should not be interpreted as medical advice or as proof that SPIKE can diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, or rehabilitate any disease, injury, or medical condition.
Personal experiences may differ based on factors including physical condition, training history, technique, consistency, age, activity level, and individual circumstances.
SPIKE research & hypotheses
Some concepts discussed within SPIKE draw upon established principles of anatomy, biomechanics, proprioception, sensory processing, and motor control.
Other ideas associated specifically with the SPIKE Method may represent observations, theories, or hypotheses that have not been established through controlled scientific research.
Where SPIKE discusses a method-specific hypothesis, it should be understood as a hypothesis rather than an established scientific conclusion.
SPIKE is an evolving method.
We believe in distinguishing between what is established, what is observed, and what remains to be investigated.
We welcome continued exploration, observation, measurement, and research.
Assumption of risk
By voluntarily participating in SPIKE training or using SPIKE products, you acknowledge that physical activity involves inherent risks and that no training method can eliminate all risk of injury.
You are responsible for choosing an appropriate level of participation and for using SPIKE products and materials in accordance with provided instructions.
You are also responsible for selecting an appropriate training environment and determining whether you require professional medical, rehabilitative, or training guidance before participating.
Nothing in this disclaimer is intended to waive rights or responsibilities that cannot legally be waived under applicable law.
Related product and safety terms are set out in the Terms & Conditions.
