About SPIKE

What is SPIKE?

SPIKE is a whole-body training method built around position, tension, pressure, breath, time, and awareness.

Rather than approaching the body as a collection of isolated parts, SPIKE creates positions designed to encourage the body to organize and engage as a connected system.

Do I need SPIKE Blocks to do SPIKE?

No.

SPIKE begins with your body.

The five foundational SPIKE positions can be practiced without SPIKE Blocks.

The Blocks are designed to change height, angle, contact, spacing, reach, and leverage so you can adapt, amplify, and progress the geometry of the method.

The Foundations teach you SPIKE. The Blocks expand what becomes possible.

What are the five foundational SPIKE positions?

The five Foundations are:

  1. Base Squat
  2. Bear Crawl
  3. Superman
  4. Push-Up Body Lock
  5. Starfish

These positions introduce the fundamental principles of the SPIKE Method and provide a starting point for your practice.

Do the SPIKE Blocks come with instructions?

Yes.

Each SPIKE Block purchase includes the SPIKE Foundations Handout, introducing the five foundational SPIKE positions.

This gives you a place to begin practicing at home when your Blocks arrive.

Do I need a trainer to start SPIKE?

No.

SPIKE is designed so you can begin exploring the Foundations independently.

If you want individualized instruction, feedback, position refinement, or a deeper understanding of the method, you can also work directly with a SPIKE trainer.

What is SPIKE Online?

SPIKE Online is our ongoing digital training experience.

It allows you to continue exploring SPIKE through guided instruction, positions, Body Locks, holds, SPIKE Block configurations, and progressions on your own schedule.

What is a SPIKE Body Lock?

A SPIKE Body Lock is a whole-body geometric position in which multiple regions of the body are intentionally organized into one connected relationship.

Rather than focusing on consciously activating individual muscles one at a time, the goal is to establish the position, create engagement, maintain the relationships, breathe, and pay attention to what changes.

Who is SPIKE for?

SPIKE is designed to meet people at different starting points.

People come to movement with different bodies, ages, abilities, training histories, and goals.

SPIKE positions can be adapted to the individual rather than requiring every person to reproduce exactly the same geometry.

No particular athletic background or level of flexibility is required to begin learning the method.

Can athletes use SPIKE?

Yes.

Athletes can incorporate SPIKE into their broader training practice.

SPIKE isn’t intended to replace your sport, strength training, conditioning, or other activities.

Our philosophy is: train the body beneath the activity.

Then go do what you love.

Can I use SPIKE if I’m recovering from an injury or surgery?

SPIKE is not medical treatment, physical therapy, or rehabilitation.

If you are injured, recovering from surgery, receiving medical or rehabilitative care, or have been given restrictions on physical activity, consult your appropriately qualified healthcare professional before participating.

SPIKE does not diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, or rehabilitate injuries or medical conditions.

Read the Training & Medical Disclaimer.

SPIKE Blocks

What makes SPIKE Blocks different from regular fitness or yoga blocks?

SPIKE Blocks were developed around the geometric requirements of the SPIKE Method.

Their purpose isn’t simply to elevate the hands or feet.

They provide external reference points that allow the user to change relationships involving height, angle, contact, spacing, reach, and leverage.

The Block changes the environment. Your body does the work.
